With summer just a stone’s throw away (we hope!!) we wanted to share some symptoms of heatstroke in pets with you.
Check out our blog from last month, with tips on how to keep your pet cool during the summer months.
If you see a pet in a hot car showing signs of heatstroke, call 999 immediately.

Signs of heatstroke in dogs:
- Heavy panting or trouble breathing
- Extreme drooling
- Vomiting or diarrhoea
- Dog is tired or uncoordinated
- Collapsing
- Dry or sticky gums
- Temperature

Signs of heatstroke in cats:
- Pacing or other signs of distress
- Red tongue
- Heavy panting
- Excessive grooming
- Vomiting
- Unable to walk properly or collapsed
- Increased heart rate

Signs of heatstroke in rabbits, guinea pigs and other small furries
- Rapid breathing
- Lethargy
- Unconsciousness
- Fitting
- Confusion
- Reddening of the ears (in rabbits)
